Presque Isle River Falls

Presque Isle River Falls

Located in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park the Presque Isle River is home to several waterfalls. The Lagoo, Nawadaha, Manido, and Manabezho are all located on the river along the western edge of the Porcupine Mountains. Head along Hwy 519. The waterfalls are all easily accessible and a short walk from the parking destination.

The best way to see these falls is to hike the Presque Isle River Waterfall Loop trail-head. This is a 1.6 mile hiking trail. Traveling on Hwy 519 up from Wakefield until you reach Presque Isle Rd. Follow this straight until you need to turn right on South Boundary Rd. The trailhead parking is right over the river.

Things to in the Porcupine Mountains

There are so many attractions, beaches, campgrounds, waterfalls, and gorgeous views to see while visiting the Porcupine Mountains. The most popular destination is Lake of Clouds viewpoint which is glorious. However, the trip should not stop there. Did you know there are nearly 90 waterfalls within and around the park? You could spend an entire vacation just having a waterfall tour within the park. Some of the more popular are the Presque Isle River Waterfalls, Bonanza Falls, Bond Falls, and the O Kun-de-kun Falls just to name a few. Check out the Victoria Dam which sits along the west branch of the Ontonagon River.

Plenty of lovely campgrounds include the Presque Isle State Campground, Union River Big Bear Campground, Lost Creek Outpost Campground, and several others. There are so many hiking trails in the park that are amazing such as the Lake Superior Trail, Little Carp River Trail, Pinkerton Trail, and so many others. Also, winter sports are a must at the park with snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and downhill skiing. The Porcupine Mountains Ski Area offers plenty of runs, panoramic views of Lake Superior, and ski lodge.
