Manitou Island Lighthouse

Manitou Island Lighthouse is located just off the eastern tip of the Keweenaw's Upper Peninsula in Lake Superior and was constructed in 1862. The lighthouse is closed to the public. However, the grounds are open for visitation.The skeletal tower and keeper's dwelling are among the oldest on the Great Lakes on record and the lighthouse remains an active aid for navigation. The shoreline of the island are raw molded by years of storms and waves it is amazing the power of the lake has not swept it all away.
