The falls are fed by the Sturgeon River, which is a 106-mile-long river that runs throughout Baraga County and Houghton counties. The river flows in a general westward direction. When it reaches Baraga County, it begins to run in a northward direction and crisscrosses Baraga/Houghton county many times. The river ultimately flows out into Portage Lake and Chassell Bay.
Canyon Falls is located 15 miles south of L'Anse, MI. The falls are right along Hwy 41 and very easily accessible.
