There are many, many points of interest in each of the 4 counties of the Copper Country. The Victoria Dam in Ontonagon County is a fascinating place to visit and learn about the electrical infrastructure that supports Ontonagon County and is an important addition to the local area's electrical generation capability.
Another interesting point of interest is the Bishop Baraga Shrine between Baraga and L'Anse. The Shrine captures the heart of the Copper Country in its earliest formation by focusing on a champion of the Christian faith, a tireless worker, not only ministering to the spiritual needs of the Ojibwa people of the Copper Country and the Great Lakes, but also ministering to the thousands of immigrants coming to America from all over Europe. As Bishop Baraga himself was from Europe, he had a special place in his heart for the great need that the young miners, farmers, and immigrants were bringing to the new country. His heart is discussed at length in many books and is presently the focus of efforts to canonize him a saint as he was responsible for the conversion of over 25,000 people. A giant of the faith has lived among us! Click here to learn more about the Life of Bishop Baraga or to purchase a book on the Life of Bishop Frederic Baraga by P Chrysostomus Verwyst, O.F.M.]
