Album: Polar Bear Dive
On January 20,2007, as part of the Heikinpaiva Festival, 70+ brave young and old men and women took the polar bear plunge into the Portage Canal just west of the Portage Lift Bridge. Temperature was around 10 degrees. Some jumped alone, others in pairs, others in groups. One young lad hestitated and hestitated but didn't want to dive. Finally the life guard helped him slip into the water. The crowd roared its approval.
