Throughout Keweenaw, Houghton, and Ontonagon Counties, hundreds of mines dotted the landscape throughout from the mid 1880s until just recently when White Pine Copper Mine finally shut down its operation. Presented are some old pictures that can help us appreciate this history and contribution!

When the copper mines developed, thousands of miners, famers, and business people created small communities throughout the Copper Country. Building towns, laying out roads, developing the railroad were just part of what happened during the mid 1800s to the early 1900s in the Copper Country. Some pictures help us look back and recreate in our mind what it was like.
